Officials ID Scooter Rider Killed in Crash While Pursued by Police
On Wednesday, police identified the scooter rider who died last month when struck by a car at an intersection while police tried to pull him over. The 21-year old scooter rider did not wear a helmet as he rode through the intersection of Route 33 and Whitehorse-Mercerville Road at 9:00 p.m. on May 25 when a Hamilton Township police officer in an unmarked car tried to get him to pull him over.
The scooter rider continued on Route 33 and was hit by a Dodge Caravan that was attempting to turn into the Mercerville Shopping Center. The scooter rider flew into the windshield of the caravan. He died two days later at a hospital. The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office is investigating the 21-year old’s death. State law requires the office to investigate deaths associated with official law enforcement encounters.
