For many, a trip to Atlantic City is non-stop fun—a little gambling, some great entertainment, outstanding food. But for some, the revelry can quickly turn into a nightmare, when the carelessness or negligence of others leads to personal injury.
Take the case of Deanna J. Medley, for instance. While vacationing at the Atlantic City Hilton in October, 2011, Ms. Hilton tripped coming out of an elevator. Witnesses testified that, as she embarked from the elevator, it dropped a few inches, causing her to trip on the lip of the elevator door and take a tumble. Her attorneys say that the hotel operators had been advised by other guests that the elevator had a tendency to fall unexpectedly, but took no action to remedy the problem.
In another case, at Harrah’s in Atlantic City, guests John Binns, his wife and 17-year-old daughter were wrestled to the ground by security guards. Andrea Binns, the daughter, was knocked unconscious by security personnel and suffered a broken nose. Attorneys say that the family members had electronic key cards for access to their room and for meals, but the cards were malfunctioning. When Binns went to the desk to ask for new cards, he was told that he could not have any, as he was not listed as a guest at the hotel. During a conversation Binns had with hotel employees, two security guards arrived and almost immediately pulled him to the ground. They then followed his wife and daughter, separated them, and forced both to the ground. All of the events were captured on hotel security cameras.
